Project Overview
- Project Location: Indonesia
- Industry: Port & Bulk Cargo Handling
- Equipment Supplied: Weihua MQ Series Portal Cranes (MQ25T & MQ40T)
- Application: Bulk Cargo Ship Unloading and Port Terminal Operations
Weihua Group recently completed the shipment of five portal cranes for a large bulk cargo terminal project in Indonesia. Weihua Group organized the delivery as part of a dedicated port crane supply program for a 180,000-ton class bulk carrier terminal.
The shipment includes:
- 1 × MQ25T-32m portal crane
- 4 × MQ40T-38m portal cranes
These units will be deployed at a dedicated bulk cargo berth, where they will support continuous unloading and loading operations for mineral and general bulk materials.

Designed for Heavy-Duty Port Crane Operations
The portal cranes were developed specifically for high-capacity port handling applications. Each unit uses a four-link luffing boom structure combined with a cylindrical portal frame design.
This configuration allows stable performance across different working radii while maintaining strong lifting capacity during continuous operation.
The cranes are designed to handle both hook and grab operations. Therefore, they can support a wide range of cargo types, including bulk materials and general freight.
In addition, each crane supports:
- 360-degree slewing operation
- Horizontal and vertical load movement
- Rail-mounted traveling along the quay line
- Independent and combined motion control of all mechanisms
As a result, operators can manage complex loading and unloading tasks with better flexibility and efficiency.

Advanced Control System for Port Operations
To improve operational performance, Weihua equipped the cranes with an AC variable frequency drive system. This system allows smooth speed control across all major movements, including hoisting, slewing, and luffing.
In addition, a PLC-based control system manages overall machine operation and supports real-time monitoring.
The cranes also feature intelligent onboard control interfaces inside the operator cabin. The display provides system status information in real time, including:
- Equipment operating conditions
- Fault detection and troubleshooting guidance
- Maintenance reminders
- Safety alarm notifications
- Lubrication system status
Because of this digital monitoring system, operators can respond quickly to operational changes and reduce downtime during port operations.
Improving Safety and Operational Efficiency
Port crane operations require high levels of safety and reliability, especially during continuous cargo handling cycles.
To meet these requirements, Weihua designed the system with full variable frequency control across all motion mechanisms. This improves both smoothness and precision during operation.
At the same time, the monitoring system helps detect potential issues early. This reduces unexpected downtime and supports safer long-term operation.

Supporting Global Port Infrastructure Development
Global demand for port cranes continues to grow as countries expand their maritime trade capacity and upgrade bulk cargo terminals.
Compared with conventional lifting equipment, modern portal cranes provide better load control, higher efficiency, and stronger adaptability to complex port environments.
Weihua continues to expand its presence in the international port crane market by delivering customized solutions for shipyards, bulk terminals, and industrial ports.
With strong engineering capability and continuous product innovation, Weihua supports customers in improving port efficiency and strengthening long-term cargo handling capacity across global markets.
