Case Study | Port Cranes Delivered for Shipyard and Terminal Projects in Myanmar and Indonesia

Project Overview

  • Project Region: Myanmar & Indonesia
  • Industry: Shipbuilding & Port Operations
  • Equipment Supplied: Weihua Portal Cranes and Marine Handling Crane Systems
  • Application: Shipyard Lifting, Bulk Cargo Handling, and Port Terminal Operations

Recently, Weihua Group completed the delivery of more than ten portal cranes and related port lifting equipment for major shipyard and terminal projects in Myanmar and Indonesia.

These projects include both shipbuilding operations and large-scale port cargo handling applications. Together, they further strengthen Weihua’s presence in the global port crane market and support infrastructure development along major international trade routes.

Port Crane Solutions for Myanmar Shipyard Project

Port Crane Solutions for Myanmar Shipyard Project

In Myanmar, Weihua delivered a complete lifting solution for one of the country’s largest integrated shipbuilding and repair facilities.

The project includes:

  • 1 × 400-ton shipbuilding gantry crane (span 105m)
  • 3 × four-link portal cranes

Two units of the portal cranes have already passed the final delivery and commissioning stages.

These portal cranes use a four-link boom structure combined with an A-frame column and cylindrical portal base. This design allows stable lifting performance across different working radii.

The cranes support multiple functions, including:

  • Lifting with variable outreach
  • 360-degree slewing operation
  • Vertical and horizontal load movement
  • Rail-mounted traveling along the quay line

In practice, operators can coordinate multiple crane movements to improve efficiency during ship construction and heavy assembly tasks.

The shipyard itself represents a major infrastructure project in Myanmar. Once fully operational, it will support a new 40,000-ton dry dock, expanded quay structures, and auxiliary facilities. The installation of Weihua port cranes provides essential lifting capacity for these operations.

Port Handling Equipment for Indonesia Industrial Terminal

In Indonesia, Weihua supplied nine portal cranes designed for bulk cargo and general freight handling at a large industrial port terminal.

This terminal forms part of a broader international industrial development project focused on mineral processing and stainless steel production. It has also been recognized as a key Belt and Road cooperation demonstration zone between China and Indonesia.

The portal cranes are used for:

  • Bulk material unloading
  • General cargo handling
  • Quay-side loading and transfer operations

Because port operations in this region involve mixed cargo types and continuous working cycles, the cranes were designed for stable performance under different load conditions.

Over the past three years, Weihua has delivered nearly 30 port cranes and more than 120 bridge and gantry cranes to the same customer group, with total contract value exceeding 400 million RMB.

This long-term cooperation reflects consistent demand for reliable port crane systems that can support large-scale industrial logistics and port expansion.

Reliable Port Crane Performance in Real Operating Conditions

Port environments require equipment that can handle high-frequency operation, heavy loads, and variable working conditions.

Therefore, Weihua focuses on structural stability, long service life, and flexible operating control in its port crane designs.

In these projects, the cranes support continuous cargo handling operations while maintaining stable performance across different working scenarios. This includes shipyard lifting, dockside loading, and bulk material transfer.

Supporting Global Port Infrastructure Development

Today, port development plays a key role in global trade and industrial supply chains. As cargo volume continues to increase, demand for high-performance port cranes is also growing.

Compared with standard lifting equipment, dedicated port cranes provide higher efficiency, better load control, and stronger adaptability to complex marine environments.

Weihua continues to deliver customized port crane solutions for shipyards, terminals, bulk cargo facilities, and industrial ports across more than 130 countries and regions worldwide.

By providing reliable lifting equipment and engineering support, Weihua helps customers improve operational efficiency and strengthen long-term port handling capacity.
